Scheiße — the word that comes to mind, and probably the rider's too. Parked beneath a bridge in the dead of night, this motorbike sits encrusted in bird droppings — either abandoned to its fate or left by someone with spectacularly poor judgement about where to park in Berlin.

The sight stopped me cold. Granted, it's no sweeping landscape. But like any good Ansel Adams print, once you look you can't stop looking. The harsh overhead light, the grime, the absurdity of it all — there's a strange beauty in the scene that only black and white can properly honour.
