Collection: Urban History

The occupation of Zuccotti Park began on September 17, 2011 and lasted 59 days before the NYPD cleared the camp on November 15. The tents came down. The conversation didn't.

Occupy Wall Street put income inequality, corporate greed, and the corrupting influence of money in politics onto the front page — and kept them there. The specific demands were debated. The underlying grievances were not. More than a decade later, they remain as urgent as the day the first sign went up.

This series captures moments from inside the occupation: the signs, the faces, the quiet acts of defiance and the loud ones. Printed directly on birch wood — a nod to the raw, handmade spirit of the protest itself — each piece is as unique as the grain running through it.
